Johnny Walker Black

A number of weeks ago, I posted something on Facebook about adopting a new habit.

That habit was Johnnie Walker Black.

I bought a $50 heavy tumbler, some silicone ice trays, and I was all set.

But eventually I noticed a problem: I could drink four or five doubles without thinking too much about it. I could drink three doubles and hardly even notice.

But here’s the math: three doubles is roughly equivalent to drinking a six-pack of beer.

And doing that every night has some fairly serious health consequences.

I suppose years of drinking have caught up with me to the point that my tolerance is extremely high. But tolerance does not reduce the toll alcohol takes on the body. It just means I do not immediately feel the effect.

So I am kicking the Johnnie Walker habit to the curb. Done with that.

God expects us to be good stewards of our bodies, which makes this an obvious choice.

I am not going to pour it all down the drain or anything. Honestly, I think it is a better flex to quit with an unopened half-gallon sitting in the cupboard.
